Do not approach a damaged tree, wire or unstable structure to follow this guide. Call emergency services when people are at risk.

Leave the wire and tree alone

Georgia Power says a downed line is life-threatening even when it looks inert. Do not try to move a tree limb from one or drive over a line. Keep people away. Call 911 for an immediate danger; if Georgia Power is your provider, its published downed-line number is 1-888-891-0938. If a different utility serves the address, contact that utility.

Report road hazards to the right owner

Macon-Bibb Public Works maintains city and county roads and offers a SeeClickFix issue portal and (478) 803-0490 during listed office hours. Its page sends state-road maintenance issues to Georgia DOT. A blocked road with immediate risk belongs to emergency services; the routine Public Works contact is not a substitute for a 911 call.

Protect the record, not the debris pile

When it is safe to do so, photograph the tree and affected structure from a distance, note the address and timing, and contact your insurer for policy-specific documentation. Do not climb on the tree, roof or unstable debris for pictures. An insurance decision is not guaranteed by this guide.

Price the entire safe cleanup

Ask a qualified contractor for a written scope after hazards have been handled: tree removal, roof protection, rigging, road or neighbor access, hauling, stump work, and any after-hours fee. If the tree was in a design-review district, ask Macon-Bibb Planning & Zoning about approvals for follow-up removal work; do not let an urgent cleanup quote imply permit clearance.

A state highway has a different road owner; the Public Works page directs state road maintenance to Georgia DOT.
